MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR OF PEDIATRICS, CAO AND GME DIO
Chair of Pediatrics, Chief Academic Officer and GME DIO
Welcome to NYC Health and Hospitals/ Kings County Hospital situated in Central Brooklyn, NYC. Our facility is one of the 11 acute care hospitals in the largest public hospital system in the U.S. As the Chair of Pediatrics, the Chief Academic Officer and the Graduate Medical Education Designated Institutional Officer at Kings, it is my pleasure to tell you about our amazing team in the Department of Pediatrics. After having completed my medical school and pediatric residency in India, I came to Brooklyn to complete a pediatric residency and fellowship in Pediatric Hematology. Taking care of children with devastating ailments such as cancer and perinatal HIV led me to commit to this wonderful community we serve. Our faculty share a similar background and commitment; many of them were medical students and residents who trained at Kings County and elected to return or stay here to practice. A well-balanced mix of recent graduates and mid-level and senior faculty is poised to educate all our trainees with a supportive, understanding and up to date pediatric experience housed in a state-of-the-art facility that will continue to fulfil the need of the most vulnerable of our patients. The Kings County Pediatric Department also serves as an inpatient and outpatient referral center for other facilities within the Health and Hospitals system.
In the videos and text to follow, my colleagues and I will tell you more about some of the details of our Inpatient unit, PICU, NICU, Ambulatory Care division and the Pediatric Emergency departments and the learning environment and amazing opportunities our trainees are offered. As the Chair and institutional academic leader let me again welcome you to Kings County Hospital and the vibrant borough of Brooklyn where I am certain you will not only experience and learn to be a trusted and excellent pediatrician, but also find a good life-work balance.
