Centers of Excellence

WTC Environmental Health Center

NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue provides specialized care for people suffering from the ill effects of the tragedy on 9/11–one of three designated Centers of Excellence for such care in the NYC Health + Hospitals system.

Comprehensive Cardiac Care

NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue has expertise in the care of complex cardiovascular conditions, including ischemic, valvular, and congestive heart failure, and offers the only dedicated aortic surgery service in the metropolitan area. The Fire Department of New York has also designated the hospital a Center for Percutaneous Coronary Intervention for Acute Myocardial Infarctions, as well as a Center for Hypothermia (cardiac cooling) Post-Cardiac Arrest.

Trauma Center

Among the specialties of NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue’s Trauma Center are a Level 1 (highest rating) regional trauma center, a spinal cord injury center, a limb re-implantation center, and a state-of-the-art critical care service. Separate specialized areas are in place for adult and pediatric traumas.

Designated Stroke Care Center

Designed to offer the best chance for complete recovery, urgent 24/7 care for stroke victims is provided by dedicated teams specially trained in the rapid testing, analysis, and treatment of stroke victims.

Cancer Care Center

NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue offers high-quality cancer services, including screening, diagnosis, and treatment for breast, cervical, colorectal, and other cancers.

Regional Perinatal Center

Designated by New York State as a tertiary referral center for maternal and infant births and intra-hospital transfers of high-risk pregnancies, the Regional Perinatal Center provides care for critically ill infants born throughout the region.

Bariatric Surgery

The American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery has designated NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue’s Center for Obesity & Weight Management a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence® . The designation recognizes surgical programs with a demonstrated track record of favorable outcomes in bariatric surgery.

HIV Services

NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue’s Virology Clinic delivers top-quality health care services to people living with HIV and AIDS.

Diabetes Center of Excellence

Delivering high-quality care management for diabetic patients, this program features regular education classes, support groups, and technology to support care management in the home. The program provides patients with special equipment to measure blood sugar, weight, and blood pressure–information that is subsequently sent electronically for a nurse to read. The nurse follows up one or more times a week to discuss the readings, design weekly meal plans, and develop strategies to help control weight, blood sugar, and blood pressure.

Parkinson’s Disease

Neurologists and nurse educators work closely with patients and their families to make living with the disease more manageable through intensive physical and occupational therapy, onsite counseling, and support groups.

SAFE Center of Excellence

Sexual assault victims receive sensitive care within an hour of their arrival to minimize trauma and reduce the risk that evidence critical to law enforcement will be lost, damaged, or overlooked.

Traumatic Brain Injury Rehabilitation

NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue is the only New York State-certified acute traumatic brain injury rehabilitation center within NYC Health + Hospitals. We provide comprehensive medical rehabilitation services to persons who have acquired physical and/or cognitive challenges due to brain injury.

Our unit features state-of-the-art equipment to assist individuals in attaining maximum physical, cognitive, psychosocial, educational, and vocational capabilities.

Our physicians are affiliated with NYU Langone and are specially trained in the treatment of individuals with brain injuries.
